Before you get in the field, make sure you have your swine barns ready for Spring and Summer. Our list below will make sure everything from fans to your evaporative cooling systems are in working condition before the weather changes to warmer temperatures.
Swine Spring/Summer Checklist
- Inspect fan motor, motor & prop pulleys & belts. Replace worn fan belts & pulleys, shop here for our selection of V-Belts & Sheaves
- Check automatic belt tensioner
- Grease bearings on Belt Drive fans & replace them when necessary
- Clean exhaust & circulation fans. It is important that fan shutters, blades, housings & screens are clean to maximize fan performance
- Replace any damaged cone or cone sections
- Clean & inspect interior shutters for damaged vanes or vane rods
- Inspect & repair all ceiling inlets
- Make sure sidewall curtains form a tight seal with the sidewall & any holes in the curtain are repaired
- Test curtain drops on tunnel-ventilated houses to ensure they function & there are no obstructions preventing the curtains from falling
- Test all controller functions & settings; also, test all alarm dialer functions
- Make sure thermostats are functioning correctly, re-set & protected from moisture
- Replace all water filters & be sure to have extra filters on hand; replacement filters are available here
- Clean evaporative cooling/fogging pads to maximize airflow through the pads. Clean pads in the direction of the flute angle on your pad. Please Note: If a new fogging or fogging pad system was recently installed, please make sure your current well can supply the increase in water requirements.
- Clean evaporative cooling pad sumps
- Make sure holes in the water distribution pipe of the evaporative cooling system are clean
- Check circuit breakers to ensure they can handle the full load when all systems are operating. Keep extra circuit breakers handy. Please Note: If a house was recently converted to tunnel ventilation, please contact your power supplier to ensure the current transformer can handle the additional load.
- Make sure your generator has been serviced to handle any power outages caused by spring & summer storms
- Inspect & grease anchor bearings
- Make sure you have spare fan motors, motor pulleys, prop pulleys, fan belts, fogging nozzles, PVC fittings, water filters & circuit breakers on hand
