The spray bottle was over-pressurized from shipment and broke the sprayer. The boar pheromone works great to tame our male cat around our older female cat. I was just dripping the liquid on a paper towel and manually applying it. It would probably be more effective if the sprayer worked )-:
Every morning I dip a q-tip in this and wipe it around the base of our spayed female's tail, particularly the bottom above the anus and along the haunches. It stops our hyper sexed neutered male from trying to rape her. I notice that some folks tried to use this on an intact female in heat and it didn't work. No wonder because they are producing so much of their own female phernomes. Spayed females don't have a female oder or a male oder so the male assumes they are female. Applying this makes the male think think she is another male. It does not stop other forms of aggression like territory and pecking order. Feliway multi-cat works for that so I use both. The male still gets a bit aggressive at times, but not sexually and not as often or as intense.
I got this for my cat at the same time I got Feliway Multicat diffuser. The Hog Mate arrived first. It did not work for my cat issues. This is because it is a product for another animal. It's a strong smell, neither pleasant nor unpleasant- and the strength of the scent is enough to stop the behavior of ANY animal (myself included) and go "WHOA". My male neutered cat continued roughhousing my older spayed female cat as soon as the scent dissipated.
The Feliway worked immediately upon arrival. I'm not sure if other capricious cat owners understood this when giving Hog Mate poor reviews: they did not use this product for its intended purpose (or animal) and, hey, it didn't work. I took a chance on this, and it didn't work for me, either. I found something that did, and in the meantime QC Supply shipped the product out to me and provided excellent service.
Like many other reviewers, I bought this product to spray on my cats. We decided to try it before we took our male kitty to the vet to request some kitty Xanax or something. I figured the cost of ordering the Hog Mate was less than a trip to the vet's office and a lot less hassle too, so why not give it a shot. So far, It has really reduced the aggressive behavior and while it certainly doesn't smell like roses, it's a small inconvenience I can put up with in exchange for cat peace and harmony in our household. I also noticed that by playing with my younger male cat and wearing him out, he will be too tired to carry on with his obsessive pouncing.
Why do you people use this for cats... My boars love this stuff. Can't get enough of it.
