250 Watt Utility De-Icer
More about 250 Watt Utility De-Icer
Provide ice-free water for your livestock this winter with a 250W Utility De-Icer. This de-icer was designed for multiple uses around the farm and is constructed of patented cast aluminum for ultimate efficiency and safety. It is thermostatically controlled to operate only when necessary and is safe to use in plastic tubs. This 250 watt model is good for use in rubber, metal, or plastic containers up to 25 gallons. Made in the USA.
I have used these for years. When I order them, usually 8-12 at a time due to the number of 'energy-free' waterers we have for cattle and horses, there is always 2-4 that do not work. They either don't warm up or they stick on and give me steaming water. But, nothing is made like it used to be.
I have used these for 3 yrs now.. I made the mistake of putting vinegar in the water along with the deicer. The vinegar did take a toll on the deicer causing pitting in the ring and rust on the handle...Most likely would have gotten to use them another yr if I had not done that. Saved money with the low wattage. My biggest regret is that I didn't buy more the first time when they were on sale.
Used the product a few days after receiving in an old 25 gallon cow protein bucket. The overnight temperature was -8 and the high was 2, no ice on the water. These buckets are not thick nor insulated.
The only thing I cannot speak to is the longevity of the product as I have only had it a few days. If it performs like above for the next 5 years it will be 5 star and impressive.
Had similer in the past. Not sure if these are made with the same material, if so I will not be happy. The last ones slowly dissolved in the water over time leaving bits and pieces of lead or aluminum behind.
Keeps automatic water tub thawed at -20 degrees. Easy on the electric bill also.
