CocciAid Amprolium 9.6% Oral Solution is an FDA-approved 9.6% Oral Solution intended for the treatment of coccidiosis in growing chickens, turkeys, and laying hens. It is administered in the drinking water and interferes with the metabolism of the vitamin thiamine (vitamin B1) in coccidia. The drug is a thiamine analog and blocks the thiamine transporter of Eimeria species. By blocking thiamine uptake, it prevents carbohydrate synthesis.

It is efficacious against coccidiosis and is well favored due to few resistance issues and is commonly used in conjunction with sulfonamides prophylactically in chickens as a coccidiostat. Coccidia are protozoans that can wreak havoc in a flock of poultry by an infection known as coccidiosis. The coccidia parasite coats the lining of the intestinal wall and prevents the absorption of nutrients. The disease is spread by contact with infected feces or ingestion of infected tissue.

Diarrhea, which may become bloody in severe cases, is the primary symptom. Outward signs of coccidiosis in chickens include droopiness and listlessness, loss of appetite, loss of yellow color in shanks, pale combs and wattles, ruffled, unthrifty feathers, huddling or acting chilled, blood or mucus in the feces, diarrhea, dehydration, and death
